Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has revealed that his attempts to secure the release of singer Darlington Okoye, widely known as Speed Darlington, from police custody have been unsuccessful.
Speed Darlington was rearrested on Tuesday during a show in Owerri.
He was arrested on allegations of cyberstalking his fellow artist, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy.
According to reports, the case revolves around claims of defamation and online harassment.
Providing an update via his official Facebook page on Wednesday night, Adeyanju disclosed that Speed Darlington had been transferred to Abuja from Owerri.
Also, he expressed frustration with the police’s refusal to grant bail.
“The Nigerian police brought our client Speed Darlington to Abuja from Owerri this evening, and I just met him. They have refused to release him on bail over defamation of Burna Boy,” he said.
Deji Adeyanju also criticised Burna Boy’s perceived role in the matter,.
Also, he referenced the artiste’s public image as a champion of social justice.

“Burna Boy, the Ojuelegba Fela sings about oppression, yet he uses the police to oppress Akpi,” Adeyanju wrote.
He calls out what he described as hypocrisy on Burna Boy’s part.
