FCT Blackouts

Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will soon face power outages due to the relocation of electricity towers along the Apo axis, a key part of the road dualisation project overseen by the Federal Capital Development Agency (FCDA).

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed that it needs to relocate eight 132kV and 33kV towers along the Kukwaba/Apo 132kV line, which runs along the Outer Southern Expressway route, to enable the roadworks.

The planned power outage will occur from Monday, January 6 to Monday, January 20, 2025, between 9am and 4pm daily.

During this time, TCN will dismantle old towers, construct new ones, and restring power cables in order to restore the bulk power supply to the Apo Transmission Substation from the Gwagwalada Substation.

Consequently, TCN will ration electricity supply across several areas, including Kubwa, Karu, Maraba, Nyanya, Masaka, Keffi, Kukwaba, and Apo Mechanic.

In addition, parts of Lugbe, Trademore Estate, Pyakasa, Sabon Lugbe, Chika, and Alaita will also experience disruptions.

TCN has apologised for the inconvenience these outages will cause.

The company assured residents that it will restore power as soon as the tower relocation and cable work are completed.

According to the General Manager for Public Affairs at TCN, Ndidi Mbah, the relocation of the towers is essential to completing the road dualisation project, which will ultimately improve traffic flow in the FCT.
