In a remarkable achievement for the Nigerian Air Force, a significant honor has been bestowed upon one of its officers.
Flying Officer David Sangokoya of the Nigerian Air Force has been awarded the International Sword of Honour for 2023 at the Royal Air Force College Cranwell in the United Kingdom.
The Nigerian Air Force also announced the award in a statement posted on Facebook on Friday.
Nigerian Air Force Statement
In a statement titled: “NAF Officer Awarded 2023 International Sword of Honour At RAF College Cranwell UK,” detailed Sangokoya’s achievement.
According to the statement: “Flying Officer David Sangokoya attended the Modularised Initial Officers’ Training (MIOT) Course 22 from March to September 2023 as a cadet.
He emerged as the Best International Cadet on the course.”
It continued: “The RAFCC graduates up to eight courses each year, and the International Sword of Honour is awarded to the most outstanding international cadet among the year’s award winners.”
The statement also mentioned that the award was presented by Prince William, the Prince of Wales, on behalf of King Charles III.

The ceremony took place on September 12, 2024, during the Royal Graduation.
Chief Of The Air Staff Response
In response to this honor, Chief of the Air Staff Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar congratulated Sangokoya.
The CAS praised him for his exceptional achievement, noting that it reflected his focus, dedication, and hard work during training.
Air Marshal Abubakar also acknowledged Sangokoya’s family for their support, which he believed was crucial to his success.
He emphasised that the Nigerian Air Force is proud of this accomplishment, which highlights both the Service and the nation in a positive light.
