Peruvian authorities have launched an investigation into the unauthorised leak of the medical records of singer Shakira.
According to reports, the singer’s private health information was shared on social media following her treatment at a clinic in Lima.
The 48-year-old global superstar was admitted to the emergency room on Saturday due to an abdominal condition.
This leads to the cancellation of her highly anticipated Sunday performance.
However, shortly after her brief hospital stay, confidential details of her medical record surfaced online.
This sparked outrage.
In response, the spokeswoman for Peru’s national health service watchdog, Ruby Cubas, issued a stern warning.
She stated that the hospital responsible could face severe sanctions and substantial fines.
“On Monday, we visited the clinic and held discussions with its officials. They have provided their explanation, which remains confidential,” Cubas revealed.
The investigation is set to last for 25 days.
