Content creator Jarvis has set the record straight regarding the nature of her “proposal” from fellow TikToker, Peller, after a viral video of the moment caused a stir online.
In a recent livestream, Jarvis clarified that what many assumed was an engagement was actually a symbolic gesture of commitment—a promise ring.
Explaining the situation, she said: “It’s a promise ring, not an engagement ring. A promise ring and an engagement ring are not the same. An engagement ring is for marriage. This promise ring is more like saying, ‘My love, I’m travelling to another country, please wait for me until I return.’ And I said; okay. I’m not running anywhere”.
The misunderstanding arose after Peller shared a video of the event, which took place in a restaurant filled with family and friends.
In the clip, Peller dramatically went down on one knee, catching Jarvis off guard as she initially thought it was a prank.
Also, her acceptance of the ring led to widespread assumptions of an engagement.
Adding fuel to the speculation, Jarvis later posted an Instagram video dressed in traditional Yoruba bridal attire with the caption, “Yoruba bride to be!”.
