Political parties and other Nigerians are still asking the Chairman of the independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmoud Yakubu, to resign.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is leading the call on resignation of the INEC chairman.
One would have thought that ‘pressure’ would have dropped from the opposition party after about two weeks, but it is increasing gradually.
On February 25, 2023, the presidential and National Assembly elections were held.
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared president-elect on March 1.
What Went Down
The journey between the voting and the result presentation was not without bumps and challenges.
INEC was not able to keep up with its promises to upload results directly from polling units and opposition parties called for the resignation of the electoral umpire chairman.
So many events occurred at the collation center in Abuja, including the PDP and Labour Party agents walking out on INEC chairman in protest.
Indeed, those events are now the reason the PDP is throwing him to the EFCC and other agencies of the government.

The PDP and LP vice presidential candidates, Ifeanyi Okowa and Datti Baba-Ahmed also held a press conference while the results were being presented.
During the press conference, they had called for the resignation of Mr Yakubu among other demands.
Even as the results have been announced and the certificate of return has been presented to Mr Tinubu, opposition parties are not satisfied.
LP presidential candidate, Peter Obi and PDP candidate Atiku Abubakar have already dragged Mr Tinubu and INEC to court.
Call For Resignation
At a press conference on Friday, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba alleged that the election results were mutilated.
This is as he claims the commission violated the electoral act, with reckless abandon.
Basically, they claimed INEC deliberately refused to transmit polling units results as provided by the Electoral Act.

He maintained that the INEC Chairman’s exit will be the first step to rebuilding confidence in the electoral body.
Ologunagba also asked the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (INEC) to commence an investigation on the INEC Chairman.
