PDP Presidential Ticket Offer: Jonathan At A Crossroads

The former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan has found himself at a crossroads.

PDP Presidential Ticket Offer: Jonathan At A Crossroads

It was not long ago, particularly on June 28, Patience Jonathan, Goodluck’s wife and one-time First Lady of Nigeria rebuked ever returning to Aso Rock.

She said: “If you call me now for villa, I won’t go there. I won’t. Don’t you see how young I am? The stress is so much.

“The stress of Nigeria is so much. If God manages to bring you out of it, you should glorify God and thank him. It is the Lord’s doing and it is marvellous in our eyes.

“He has taken you there once, why do you want to go there again? Me I won’t go oo!!!”

What will happen now that some Nigerians are calling on Goodluck Jonathan to contest for power?

The Return Of Jonathan

The recent sighting of Jonathan’s presidential posters for the 2027 elections across major streets in Kano, sparked speculation of his possible return to the political arena.

To some political elites, the move is based on the belief that Jonathan is eligible to serve another four-year term, having already served as president from 2011 to 2015.

To further complicate things, the PDP called on the former president to contest for the election via its platform.

The PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, said the party had eagerly awaited Jonathan’s return for a second term due to his political rise.

The Call

Abdullahi urged Jonathan to heed the call to finish what he started within the party, emphasizing that it would be regrettable if the former president chose another party for his presidential bid.

His words: “We’ve said this about Jonathan and our governors.
Even the FCT minister, is arguably the best performer in his role and he is a product of PDP. El-Rufai, Okonjo-Iweala, Dora Akunyili, Obi Ezekwesili, Akinwunmi Adesina, Amina Mohammed… these are the pride of this country, and they are all products of the PDP.

“If Goodluck Jonathan is seriously considering running, we have been calling him to come back and complete his term.
It will not be out of place, but if he runs with another political party, it will expose the hypocrisy within the APC.”

Dilemma

“It’s crucial for him to remember how he was derided, criticised and reduced to nothing by these same people.
Now that they are suddenly calling him the messiah, he must not be swayed by their sudden affection. That would be unfortunate.”

Where does this leave our dear Goodluck?

Of course at a crossroads.

Will he ignore his wife’s feelings and family to serve his people?

Or will he ignore the PDP, as well as other Nigerians who see him as a messiah who can save the country and stay true to his family?

It is often said that family comes first.

Now, Goodluck has found a dilemma before him.

His decision may either hurt his wife and family or hurt Nigerians.

Whatever the case may be, 2027 is still far ahead, leaving the political figure ample time to decide his fate.
