Passengers Stranded In Warri-Itakpe Train Derail, Rescued

Passengers stranded as a result of the Warri-Itakpe train derailing have been rescued with cabs by staff members of the railway station.

This was revealed by one of to staff members of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), who spoke to Vanguard.

On Sunday, barely a month after about 20 passengers were kidnapped from the Igueben train station in Edo state, the same train derailed while traveling the Warri-Itakpe route.

Sources said the incident happened inside the Kogi forest and many passages reportedly abandoned the train for fear of being kidnapped.

According to the NRC staff member, the railway workers got vehicles to evacuate the passengers from the forest.

“The place is not far from the last bus stop. So, some of our staff members called a cab from the station at Itakpe to evacuate all of them.

“It’s not far, just 20 kilometers from the incident scene. Nobody was injured,” he said.

As of press time, the cause for the derail is not yet known but the staff member said an engineer had been sent to check it out.
