Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, secured a historic 79-70 victory over Canada at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium on Sunday, August 4, 2024.
This win marks their first-ever appearance in the quarter-finals of the Olympic basketball tournament.
D’Tigress topped the group stage with five classification points, edging out hosts France, who still have a game against Australia later in the day.
The Nigerian team bounced back from a loss to France in their second game, having previously defeated Australia in their opener.
The match saw a closely contested first quarter, ending 18-18, before Canada took a narrow lead in the second quarter, finishing 41-37 at halftime.
However, Nigeria dominated the third quarter, limiting Canada to just five points, before sealing their historic win with a 9-point margin in the final quarter.
