Old Naira Notes: See What Fuel Station, Bank Are Doing To Customers

old and new naira note

Sometimes customers are not kings in Nigeria. They just get this harsh treatment that will make you wonder if they are getting the service for free.

On Monday, this same situation occurred somewhere in Lagos State.

In a fuel station, there was confusion as attendants rejected the old Naira notes.

This is happening despite a Supreme Court ruling stopping the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from implementing the February 10, 2023 deadline for swapping old Naira notes for the newly redesigned Naira notes.

A driver at a fuel station told Ibrandtv that he could not buy fuel because he didn’t have new notes.

“I want to buy fuel now, but the fuel attendant didn’t fill my tank because I do not have a new naira note.

“Even the POS operator did not have a new naira note, so how will someone get a new naira note when they are scarce to get?”

Some Nigerians also took to social media platforms to condemn the actions of some banks.

Supreme Court Ruling On New Naira Notes

In a suit, governors of some states asked the apex court to declare that the President of Nigeria, cannot unilaterally direct the Central Bank of Nigeria to recall the new ₦200, ₦500, and ₦1,000 old bank notes without recourse to the Federal Executive Council and National Economic Council, respectively.

They also issued a mandatory order seeking a reversal of the Federal Government’s policy to recall the ₦200, ₦500, and ₦1,000 notes from circulation as it was affecting the economic wellbeing of over 20 million of the states’ citizens.

The applicants also sought a mandatory order compelling the Federal Government to reverse the Naira redesign policy for alleged failure to comply with the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Constitution of 1999 (as amended).
