You see, the embattled former Speaker is set to face intense scrutiny from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Don’t forget that Obasa’s Monday impeachment was linked to the misappropriation of ₦43.5 billion in state funds.

Sources within the anti-graft agency revealed that Obasa, who was impeached after a damning report by the platform exposed his lavish spending on luxury back-up vehicles, is expected to be arrested upon his return to Nigeria from the United States.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “The evidence against him is overwhelming. This time, he won’t be able to wriggle out. The case has been meticulously compiled, and we are ready to take action.”

The Heavy Hammer

Obasa, who had previously faced an EFCC probe in 2020 for allegedly spending ₦1.1 billion within a week, was cleared without charges. However, this time, officials believe his chances of escaping prosecution are slim.

“Heavy hammer is waiting to fall on him,” the source added, emphasising the agency’s resolve to ensure accountability.

With his impeachment and pending EFCC investigation, Obasa’s political future hangs in the balance.

Questions remain about whether he will return to Nigeria to assume a lesser role as a floor member in the House of Assembly or continue to evade scrutiny.

The EFCC has assured that there will be no disruptions in its plans to apprehend Obasa upon his arrival.

“We have no political interference at all. He will clarify things to our detectives,” an EFCC source stated.
