At approximately 10:06 AM on Wednesday, a shocking incident occurred at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
A Boeing 737-400 cargo aircraft, operated by Allied Air, skidded off the runway during its landing.
The aircraft, flight AJK206, had just completed its journey from Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos.
As it touched down on Runway 22, the plane skidded off course, sliding into a grass verge.
Thankfully, no fatalities or injuries were reported, though the aircraft sustained considerable damage.
NSIB Probes Abuja Airport Runway Accident
In response to the incident, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has taken swift action.
The NSIB, committed to ensuring aviation safety, has launched a thorough investigation to determine the causes of the accident.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance at NSIB, Bimbo Oladeji, confirmed the agency’s dedication to uncovering all the contributing factors.

To facilitate this, the NSIB has sent a specialised Go Team to the scene of the accident.
This team will conduct an on-site assessment, recover relevant data, and interview those involved, all in an effort to determine what went wrong.
Statement From NSIB
According to the statement: “The NSIB has initiated an investigation to determine the causal and contributory factors that led to this incident.
“Our Go Team has been dispatched to the site to conduct an on-site assessment, recover relevant data, and interview involved parties”.
