The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, has been summoned by the Nigerian police for questioning.
There are allegations of terrorism financing and treason hanging on the labour leader.

The letter dated August 19, 2024, stated: “We are investigating a case of criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime in which you are mentioned.

Police Clarification
However, Egbetokun said the operation had no connection with the NLC, its secretariat, staff, or leadership.
He stated that the NLC Secretariat was not the focus of the operation.
But a rented shop within the building used by the suspect, as a front for his criminal activities in Nigeria.
“The Nigeria Police Force seeks the cooperation and support of the NLC leadership as we continue this investigation, which is vital to safeguarding our nation.”
The allegations come at a time of heightened scrutiny and tension, and the outcome of the investigation could have significant implications for both the labor movement and broader political landscape.
The police will provide more information as the investigation progresses.
Meanwhile, Ajaero and the NLC have yet to issue a formal response to the allegations.
