New Way Spare Parts Dealer Smuggles Drug Out Of Nigeria

While the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) pushes to combat the use of illicit drugs dealers are devising a new means of moving the contraband around. 

Many were shocked to find the new means of distributing drug that people are adopting. 

Now, in a determined effort to combat illegal drug exportation the NDLEA has intensified its operations against traffickers attempting to smuggle narcotics out of Nigeria.

NDLEA Arrests Spare Parts Dealer in Major Drug Smuggling Operation

Recently, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested automobile spare parts dealer, Ejiofor Nnaemeka Chiwuzie, for allegedly attempting to export consignments of heroin, loud cannabis, and other drugs.

How NDLEA Arrested Drug Dealer

The suspect concealed the drugs in LED rechargeable lamps and sofa metal legs.

He was arrested while attempting to ship the cargo through the export shed of Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja, Lagos State.

Furthermore, the spokesman for the NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, announced the arrest in a statement on Sunday, September 29, 2024.

According to him, Chiwuzie was apprehended on Tuesday, September 24, 2024. He was arrested at the Trade Fair Complex in Ojo, Lagos, where he operates his business.

Babafemi said: “The arrest follows the seizure of his cargo containing auto parts, rechargeable lamps, sofa metal legs, and electronics going to Liberia at the export shed of the Lagos airport”.

Discovered Parcels

Inside the LED lamps and sofa legs, authorities discovered 37 parcels of heroin weighing 1.10 kilograms and four blocks of loud cannabis totaling 1.20 kilograms.

Also, a follow-up operation led to the arrest of two freight agents involved in the shipment.

NDLEA Seized Drugs

In a related effort, NDLEA officers disrupted attempts by drug trafficking networks to export drugs. Some of the drugs are loud cannabis, tramadol pills, co-codamol tablets, pentazocine injections, dihydrocodeine, and promethazine tablets to several countries.

Seizures include:

– 2.3 kilograms of loud hidden in a carton destined for Thailand.

– 749 grams of tramadol concealed in the soles of locally made footwear for Oman.

– 60 ampoules of pentazocine injection intended for the United States.

– 200 co-codamol pills bound for Australia.

– 700 tablets of dihydrocodeine, promethazine, and tramadol, along with 20 ampoules of pentazocine hidden in footwear for the United Kingdom.

– 58 ampoules of pentazocine injection concealed in women’s clothing for Canada.

Meanwhile, all seizures took place between September 23 and 24 in Lagos.
