Netflix has officially unveiled the trailer for Hijack ’93, an upcoming historical drama.
The movie is directed by filmmaker Charles Okpaleke.
Furthermore, the movie is set to premiere on October 25, 2024.
The film is poised to continue the success of Play Network Studios’ previous works like Blood Vessel and Glamour Girls.
Hijack ’93 offers a fictionalised retelling of a significant event in Nigeria’s history—the 1993 hijacking of a Nigerian Airways flight by a group of teenagers.
Speaking about the film, Charles Okpaleke, the producer and co-founder of Play Network Studios, emphasised the importance of revisiting such pivotal moments in the nation’s history.
“These events are crucial to our national identity and must be remembered and shared with future generations,” he stated.
However, Okpaleke further explained that Hijack ’93 was designed to bring to life a story that risked being forgotten.
“This film, inspired by the real-life hijacking of a Nigerian Airways flight in 1993, is about more than just drama.
“It’s about preserving our history. As a filmmaker, my mission is to capture and present authentic African narratives to the world,” he said.
