NECO Warns Against Proxy Enrollment

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has recently taken significant steps to address concerns about examination malpractice, emphasising the need for strict adherence to registration protocols.

NECO Warns Against Proxy enrollment

The National Examinations Council has warned school owners and other relevant stakeholders to stop enrolling candidates for its examinations by proxy.

Warning To School Owners

In a statement released on Monday, the spokesman for the agency, Azeez Sani, signed the announcement.

Sani noted that the Council observed that such fraudulent practices often lead to identity theft and the subsequent presentation of fake results.

Furthermore, NECO is now determined to eradicate all forms of examination malpractice.

To achieve this goal, the Council has implemented measures to check impersonation in all its examinations.

Some of these measures include using a Biometric Data Capturing Device, providing customised answer booklets, and embossing candidates’ photographs and dates of birth on original certificates.

NECO e-Verify

Additionally, NECO had last year unveiled the NECO e-Verify, an online platform for confirming and verifying NECO results.

The Council urges everyone to note that any certificate claiming to be issued by the Council that could not be verified or authenticated using the NECO e-Verify platform is fake.

Therefore, the Council calls on State Ministries of Education and school owners to ensure that only the personal details of genuine candidates are used for registration in all NECO-conducted examinations.

Meanwhile, the Council withheld the results of candidates found guilty of impersonation in the recently released 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination Internal.

This measure is part of the Council’s robust policy to combat all forms of examination malpractice, Sani added.
