Now Wike has had to come out to debunk claims of being against the practice of Islam in Nigeria.

He says his administration is not making “laws that are against Islamic alignment”.

With Malice

The FCT Minister had a meeting with the members of the Abuja National Mosque Management Committee.

He was joined by His Royal Highness, Yahaya Abubakar, the Etsu of Nupe, who was serving as their chairman.

At the meeting, the minister claimed that those attempting to stir up religious sentiments were doing so with malice in an effort to gain quick political points.

According to Wike, “in Nigeria, I have no reason to incite hatred towards any one religious group and instead should support anyone who is fighting for a noble cause”.

However, he emphasised that the FCT will not hesitate to support the maintenance of the National Mosque.

Wike also assured them of his support in the maintenance of National Ecumenical Centre, having been declared as a national monument.

Also, he called on religious leaders to preach National unity and peaceful coexistence.
