In the busy streets of Aba, there’s a market called Eziukwu Market, better known as Cemetery Market.
At first glance, it looks like a lively place where traders work hard and shoppers hunt for bargains.
Stalls are filled with drinks, snacks, and everyday items.
But behind the scenes, something dangerous is happening—a hidden threat that puts people’s lives at risk.
Imagine buying a bottle of your favourite drink, only to find out it was made in a filthy room.
It could be taking medicine you trust, not knowing it’s a fake that could make your health worse.
Thriving Fake Products Hub
At Cemetery Market, fake goods are being made and sold every day.
These products don’t just cheat people out of their money but could harm their health or even take lives.
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) recently declared this market a hotspot for fake and low-quality products.

The announcement came during a raid on Tuesday, led by Mr Martins Iluyomade, the Director of NAFDAC’s South-East Zone.
Iluyomade compared the market’s illegal activities to “weapons of mass destruction” because of the harm they can cause.
Despite earlier crackdowns, like a major one in December 2023, these dangerous practices have continued.
Now, the agency is out to bring an end to the activities of these cheats.
Meanwhile, this situation calls for more caution before you buy drinks or drugs.
