The Nigerian Senate has ordered the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, to appear before them over the bad condition of the Old Oyo-Ogbomosho road.
This decision was reached on Wednesday, October 2, after Senator Buhari Abdulfatai (APC-Oyo North) moved a motion of urgent public importance.
The senator decried the dire state of the road, which serves as a critical link between the South and North of the country.
He emphasized that the road’s deplorable condition has caused significant hardship for travelers, who frequently face accidents and are often stranded due to its disrepair.
Despite ongoing repairs initiated by the federal government over 10 years ago, the road remains in a terrible state, contributing to frequent traffic jams and posing a danger to commuters, particularly those travelling in large vehicles.

The Senate has tasked Umahi with appearing before the Committee on Works to explain why large portions of the road remain neglected, years after the contract for its rehabilitation was awarded.
The motion received unanimous support from the senators, with Senate President Godswill Akpabio directing the Committee on Works to report back within three weeks.
