Caen have announced the signing of M’Vila on a two-year deal, the first acquisition they have made since Mbappe’s takeover.

The Real Madrid superstar paid just under €20m (£17m/$22m) to buy 80% of Caen’s shares and is now the club’s majority owner.

M’Vila is a seasoned campaigner who will bring some much-needed experience to the Ligue 2 club.

He has played for Sunderland in the Premier League and also won 22 caps for France.

The 34-year-old was most recently back in England with West Brom, joining the Baggies for the second half of 2023-24.

Mbappe almost joined Caen as a youngster but the deal fell through because the club were facing relegation to Ligue 2, where they are now playing.

They have not been in Ligue 1 since 2019.

Mbappe will be keeping a close eye on Caen’s fixtures as the Ligue 2 season progresses.

Of course, the star will mainly focus on Real Madrid, as he bids to finally win the Champions League trophy after joining the Spanish giants from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
