Yahya Abdul Mateen II, who plays DC villain Black Manta in the AQUAMAN films, will play the title character in Marvel Studios’ WONDER MAN Disney+ series.

The series was announced in June, with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Five Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton and Hawkeye co-producer Andrew Guest involved.

It will be Abdul-Mateen’s third major comic book character, after playing the villain Black Manta in #Aquaman and Dr. Manhattan in HBO’s #Watchmen, for which he won an Emmy

Wonder Man was created by Stan Lee and illustrated by Don Heck and Jack Kirby and was first introduced in Marvel Comics in 1964 with The Avengers #9. The character, also known as Simon Williams, is the son of the industrialist, Sanford Williams.
