The battle of power in Oyo State seems to be far from over.
It all started with Governor Seyi Makinde’s proclamation of Abimbola Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo.
Indeed, one man’s food is another man’s poison.
While the family of the new Alaafin celebrated victory, many others frowned bitterly.
According to Dotun Oyelade, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Owoade’s appointment was the result of thorough consultations and divinations by the Oyomesi, the traditional council responsible for selecting the Alaafin.
The governor subsequently approved the recommendation.
Oyelade stated that the announcement marked the end of socio-legal disputes that arose after the death of Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III on April 22, 2022.

He urged all residents of Oyo State to unite in celebrating the occasion and to extend their support to the new Alaafin as he begins his reign.
This announcement sparked outrage from some quarters.
Many described the selection as illegal and unlawful.
But guess what?
That did not stop Governor Makinde from officially presenting the staff of office to Owoade, the newly appointed Alaafin of Oyo.
The ceremony, held on Monday morning at the Exco Chamber of the Governor’s Office in Ibadan, formally confirmed Owoade as the new monarch.
This comes nearly three years after the passing of the former Alaafin, Lamidi Adeyemi III.
