Manchester City beat rival team Manchester United to River Plate starlet Julian Alvarez for a sum of $18 million.
Julián Alvarez is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a striker for River Plate in Argentina’s Primera División on loan from Manchester City and for the Argentina national team. He is primarily a forward, but he can also play as a winger.
The Argentine striker signed a five-year contract with City, but will remain on loan at River Plate until July.
Alvarez’s stardom increased as a result of his outstanding contributions in the final third during the South American season of 2021.
Last season, he scored 24 goals and provided 15 assists in 46 games across all competitions, proving that he has a lot of potentials.
After Sergio Aguero, the club’s all-time leading goalscorer, left on a free transfer, City were desperate for a new striker in the summer.
Manchester City were linked with reports of wooing English Striker Harry Kane to the Etihad but however failed during the 2021 summer transfer window.
With Alvarez joining the team will pose as a bargain for the future or the foundations of big profit.
