The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has taken decisive action by suspending Okpravero Ufuoma, an Assistant Superintendent of Immigration II.
This follows serious allegations of bribery.
Also, this suspension comes after Ufuoma was captured in a viral video reportedly soliciting money from a traveler.
The situation has generated widespread public outrage.
The video, which has circulated extensively on social media with the caption “This is how Immigration officers treat tourists in Nigeria,” went viral on social media and quickly came under severe criticism
In response, the NIS spokesman, Kenneth Udo, underscored that Ufuoma’s conduct starkly contradicts the core values of professionalism and integrity.
Also, the Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, strongly condemned the officer’s actions.
According to her, such behaviour undermines the ongoing efforts to enhance service delivery and public trust within the NIS.
Nandap assured the public that Ufuoma had been placed on indefinite suspension pending the outcome of a thorough disciplinary investigation.
“The officer’s actions are disgraceful and do not reflect the commitment of the NIS to hospitality, reception, and courtesy,” Nandap stated.
“We are resolute in our efforts to uphold the highest standards and ensure that our practices align with our ethical obligations.”
Also, the NIS’s rapid response to the incident illustrates its dedication to combating corruption and preserving public confidence.
