Big Brother Naija Announces New Season in July

The past months have been tough on Nigerians. The economic hardship inspired by the fuel subsidy removal of the President Bola Tinubu-led government has left Nigerians in untold suffering, one as never before.

To make matters worse, prices of goods and services have been on the rise under the Tinubu regime.

From fuel, to transportation, to food, electricity, and even cable subscription, the prices of everything have increased.

The only thing that has not increased is the minimum wage. Such irony.

The Hike

Nigerians protested so much against the electricity tariff hike when it was announced.

Up until this moment, that protest is yet to end.

As Nigerians were trying to cope with the numerous troubles, that was when MultiChoice decided to implement an increase in the price of cable subscription.

Nigerians reacted with public outrage as usual, however, this time they also decided to abandon the platform in mass.

Even MultiChoice felt it.

The company publicly lamented the drop in subscription as well as viewership.

This alone posses a major threat for the organisers of the BBNaija show.

Chances are very high that the viewership of this drama and suspense filled show which prepares to air in July, 2024, will drop.

The high cost of food is chocking Nigerians so much, not to mention other bills.

Also, the month of July happens to be the close of term, many children will be home to enjoy the holidays.

More Trouble For BBNaija

BBNaija is a show for adults, this may further give parents reasons not to even subscribe to the channel.

The fear of this viewership drop has a great chance of chasing sponsors from the show.

Don’t forget that sponsors are investing to gain popularity via viewership.

Whereas that is not guaranteed? They take to their heels.

Also, the hike in the price of goods and services in Nigeria will also affect BBNaija greatly.

The cost of putting the show together would double, if not triple, except the show is taken outside the country, which will also add to the cost.

If the show holds in Nigeria, then they have to be ready to spend more.

Let’s assume the organisers normally spend one million naira on food, with the present economy, they may need to budget more.

The BBNaija is one show Nigerians look forward to.

It is known for its exciting twists and dramatic housemate interactions, continues to captivate audiences with its mix of entertainment, competition, and reality TV drama.

The show often sparks numerous controversies, from heated arguments among housemates to debates over evictions and the behavior of contestants.

These controversies often generate significant social media buzz, making each season highly anticipated.

It is no doubt that the new season of Big Brother Naija would lighten the tensed atmosphere, however, the big question is, can Nigerians afford it?
