How Children Died In Ibadan Funfair Stampede

It was meant to be a fun and joyful day, with Children, dressed in their best clothes, gathered at Basorun Islamic High School in Ibadan for a funfair.

But the fun was soon stolen by agony that followed.

The atmosphere was full of excitement, laughter, and cheerful music.

Parents smiled, as they watched their children run around, excited for the games and prizes.

However, beneath this happy scene, danger was quietly building up.

Suddenly, chaos broke loose. A sudden rush of people caused panic. Children fell to the ground, and the crowd surged forward.

In the confusion, some were trampled on.

Sadly, what started as a day of fun quickly turned into a scene of fear and heartbreak.

Screams filled the air, and joy turned to despair.

Ibadan Funfair Stampede 

The Oyo State Government later confirmed the tragic incident.

In a statement, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, said the stampede resulted in several children’s deaths and left many others injured.

The exact number of casualties was not yet known.

In response, the commissioner explained that the state government quickly sent emergency response teams to help.

“Victims have been taken to different hospitals in Ibadan for treatment,” he said.

Also, he thanked the Commissioner for Health, Dr Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, for acting fast and sending medical teams to the scene.

Furthermore, Prince Oyelade made it clear that the government did not organise or support the event.

He stressed how important it was to properly plan and manage safety when organising events for children.

Hospitals To Check Victims 

Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing, and parents looking for their children are being asked to check hospitals in Ibadan with valid identification.

Here is a list of the hospitals identified.

– Patnas Hospital, Basorun

– Western Hospital, Basorun

– Ringroad State Hospital

– Molly Specialist Hospital

University College Hospital (UCH)

Also, the government extended its deepest sympathies to the families affected by the tragedy.

Furthermore, it urged the public to remain calm.
