Recognising the critical role of healthcare professionals in national development, the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has unveiled an ambitious plan to build 10,000 housing units nationwide.
On Friday, Minister Ahmed Dangiwa shared these plans and highlighted how the initiative aligns with the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to improve the well-being of medical professionals.
He acknowledged that many healthcare workers struggle to secure decent housing, particularly in major cities where hospitals are concentrated.
Meanwhile, the government has already started constructing 10,112 housing units in 14 locations.
These projects include 3,112 units in Karsana, Abuja, 2,000 in Lagos, and another 2,000 in Kano.
In addition, the government is currently developing Renewed Hope Estates in 12 states and plans to expand the scheme to all 36 states.

To further support healthcare workers, the government will offer flexible payment options.
These options include National Housing Fund (NHF) mortgage loans, rent-to-own schemes, and instalment plans, making home ownership easier and more accessible.
Moreover, healthcare professionals have welcomed the initiative.
NARD President, Tope Osundara, praised the project and described it as a step toward reducing brain drain in the sector.
He also suggested that the government should prioritise 1,000 housing units in the Federal Capital Territory for the project’s first phase.
Additionally, NARD member Suleiman Sadiq explained that the Ministries of Housing and Health, the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), and private developers will collaborate to deliver the project.
Finally, construction will begin between January and February, bringing hope for better living conditions and improved productivity for healthcare workers.
