Sha’Carri Richardson’s bid for World Championships 100m gold ended abruptly when she crashed out of the first round of the event at the US trials on Thursday.
Sha’Carri Richardson’s attempt to win the 100-meter gold medal at the World Championships was abruptly halted when she failed to advance past the first round of the competition at the US trials.
The outspoken sprint phenom finished fifth in 11.31 seconds, 23rd fastest overall, and will now look to the weekend’s 200m for another opportunity to make the US team. She was slow out of the blocks and never a factor in her heat.
She will need a place in the top three to qualify for the World Championships, which will take place in Eugene, Oregon, on the same Hayward Field track, in July.

Richardson, who won the US Olympic trials last year in a sprint, has yet to win an Olympic medal because of the suspension she received for testing positive for doping.
