Award-winning actress Funke Akindele has reinforced her reputation as the “Queen of the Cinema” with the phenomenal success of her latest film, Everybody Loves Jenifa (ELJ).
Released on 13 December 2024, the film has achieved a staggering opening weekend gross of ₦206 million at the Nigerian box office.
In an Instagram post, Funke Akindele expressed heartfelt gratitude, writing, “Thank you, Lord!!! Thank you, Nigeria!!! Thank you!!!!!!!!!”
The film earned ₦45.22 million on its first day, reflecting a 30% rise in debut-day admissions compared to her previous blockbuster, A Tribe Called Judah, released last year.
ELJ has broken several records, including the highest-grossing single day in Nollywood history, with an incredible ₦87.8 million earned in a single day.
The movie also recorded 38,353 ticket sales during its opening weekend, making it the largest opening weekend for Nollywood in 2024 and the highest-grossing debut in the industry’s history.
Meanwhile, the film’s reach extends beyond Nigeria, with an international debut across 30 countries, distributed by Nile Group Entertainment.
This global release has further elevated its profile, showcasing Nollywood’s growing influence on the world stage.

Remarkably, these milestones were achieved despite the film not being screened at Genesis Cinemas and missing part of its opening day at Silverbird Cinemas.
