For non-compliance with the capping of estimated bills for unmetered customers, the DisCos have been slammed with ₦10.5 billion fine.

Also, NERC instructed the DisCos to issue credit adjustments to overbilled and unmetered customers from January to September 2023 by the March 2024 billing cycle.
NERC Directs DisCos To Publish Beneficiaries Of Credit Adjustment
“DisCos have been directed to publish the list of credit adjustment beneficiaries in two national dailies and on their website no later than March 31, 2024.”
Based on recent data, unmetered customers in Nigeria are 6.68 million out of the 12 million people who registered to get into the system in the third quarter of 2023.
After NERC’s, review of DisCos billing unmetered customers for 2023 showed non-compliance with the Commission’s directive.
In a bid to curb arbitrary billing, NERC issued the Order of Non-Compliance with Capping of Estimated Bills Order No: NERC/2024/004-014.
