The Federal Government has issued a warning to Nigerian citizens planning to travel to the United Kingdom, urging caution due to recent violence following the killing of three young girls at a concert.
In a statement released on Monday, August 5, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja and signed by Ambassador Eche Abu-Obe, the government described the violence as having reached “dangerous proportions.”
The statement highlighted reports of attacks on law enforcement and damage to infrastructure.
The Ministry advised Nigerians in the UK to remain vigilant and take precautions, including avoiding political processions, protests, rallies, and large gatherings, as well as maintaining heightened awareness of their surroundings.
Recent demonstrations by far-right and other extraparliamentary groups have intensified following the deaths of the three girls, fostering an anti-immigration narrative that particularly targets Muslim immigrants and people of color.
The violence escalated last Tuesday when anti-Muslim protesters clashed with police in a northern English town.
The protests followed a tragic incident in Southport, where three girls were fatally stabbed and five other children critically injured at a Taylor Swift-themed event.
Authorities have confirmed that the attack was not terrorism-related and that the suspect was a UK-born individual.
