Across rural Nigeria, change is underway as the Federal Government says it has invested ₦17.98 billion in 2024 to boost agricultural communities.
With new roads and solar-powered streetlights, states like Kano are seeing improved connectivity and brighter prospects for farmers and traders.
The Federal Government says it spent ₦17.98 billion in 2024 to improve agricultural access roads and electricity projects, highlighting its commitment to rural development.
According to BudgIT’s GovSpend platform, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security allocated these funds to enhance infrastructure, thereby boosting agricultural productivity and improving rural livelihoods.
Kano State emerged as the primary beneficiary, receiving substantial allocations for critical road construction.
For instance, Adb Valleyfield Nig Ltd rebuilt the 4km Kungu-Yatsi road for ₦920.17 million, while Amk Visible Solution Nig Ltd completed the 3.7km Lamba-Limami road for ₦769.95 million.
In addition, Sai Salamun Nig Ltd reconstructed the 4km Gama Quarters road for ₦905.62 million.

Meanwhile, Edo State benefited from a ₦1.15 billion investment in the Otuo-Ikhin road.
At the same time, the government prioritised solar streetlight installations to illuminate rural areas.
For example, in Kano, Geostrata Wireless Services Ltd delivered solar-powered streetlights for ₦766.71 million.
Similarly, states like Kebbi and Kwara also received installations to enhance safety and connectivity.
Moreover, the government partnered with the World Bank to rehabilitate 200,000km of rural roads under the $600 million Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project.
Of this, the World Bank contributed $500 million, while the federal and state governments provided the remaining $100 million.
Looking ahead, the 2025 budget proposes ₦2 billion for solar-powered streetlights, ₦3.59 billion for feeder roads, and ₦1 billion for rural electrification.
Ultimately, these efforts aim to strengthen agricultural trade and uplift rural communities nationwide.
