Erik ten Hag believes Manchester United can improve their overloads, as they continue to master his preferred style.

Ten Hag could be seen repeatedly pointing to the far side during the first half of United’s FA Cup quarter-final win over Fulham amid a lethargic performance.

United recovered from 1-0 down to win at Old Trafford for the fifth time this season, scoring two goals in three minutes after Fulham players Willian and Aleksandar Mitrovic, as well as manager Marco Silva, were all sent off in the 72nd minute.

“I think we played the first half quite decent, not in particular in possession,” Ten Hag remarked.

“In possession, I think we had to use more of an overload on the left side, we did not [use] that well.

“But in pressing and in attacking transitions, we created great opportunities.

“I’m happy and pleased with the performance, but I see a lot of room for improvement on the ball.”

“We have to show more composure on the ball.”

“There is a need to recognise where the overload is.”

“We have to use that overload to attract opponents and stay more on the ball.”

Erik ten Hag Further Said

“In attacking transitions, there are good examples where we can do better, get more benefit from it, because we have the skills, abilities in our team.”

“I think defensive transition, especially in the recovery, the big games, like Liverpool and City, we got beaten and really beaten.

“So, we have to act and show more personality.

“So there’s a lot to improve but I’m happy in the development we have made, yeah, clear.”
