The Ecuadorian police have arrested seven gunmen for attempting to kill a teenager who was being treated in a hospital.
The gunmen are members of a gang and they exchanged fire with the police, taking nurses as hostages before they were detained.
Officials said the hostages were freed and no one was injured in the shootout.
The 17-year-old that was to be attacked is a suspected member of a rival gang and he is in intensive care recovering from bullet wounds.

Video footage circulating on social media showed men covered with a balaclava holding guns and shoving a screaming woman through one of the exit doors before dragging her to the back of the hospital building.
A representative of the employees at the hospital, Homero Andrade, said other employees locked themselves in rooms while the gunmen broke down doors.
“They didn’t know the hospital layout, it seems, and that’s why these delinquents were roaming through the entire hospital,” Andrade said.
