Marvel Studios and Disney’s Deadpool & Wolverine has set a new record as the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time at the global box office, unadjusted for inflation.
Directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, the film surpassed Todd Phillips’ Joker to achieve this milestone.
As of Thursday, August 15, 2024, Deadpool & Wolverine has amassed a global total of $1.086 billion, including $516.8 million domestically and $568.8 million internationally.
Joker, featuring Joaquin Phoenix, previously held the record with $1.079 billion in 2019.
The third highest-grossing R-rated film globally is Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer (2023) with $974.5 million.
It is followed by Reynolds’ earlier Deadpool films, The Matrix Reloaded, and The Passion of the Christ.
Before this record, The Passion of the Christ held the title for the top-grossing R-rated film domestically, with over $378 million in ticket sales.
