Cher was officially inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on Saturday, October 19, during a ceremony at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
The iconic singer, known for her bold personality, set the tone with a humorous remark, stating, “This speech is going to be a crapshoot — I wrote it the other day, and then I rewrote it tonight, and I’m dyslexic.”
However, her speech was far from chaotic. Cher captivated the audience with live performances of her hits, including “If I Could Turn Back Time” and “Believe,” the latter featuring a guest appearance by Dua Lipa.
Zendaya later took to the stage to introduce Cher, donning an outfit reminiscent of the singer’s signature Bob Mackie designs.
“There is not one person in this room, in this country, and pretty much in this world who doesn’t know the name Cher. She’s so iconic, she only needs one name,” Zendaya declared.
A video tribute followed, with appearances from stars like Cyndi Lauper, Shania Twain, and P!nk, all praising Cher’s legacy. P!nk notably described her as a “rockstar.”
In her speech, Cher joked about the challenges of securing her place in the Hall of Fame: “It was easier getting divorced from two men than it was getting into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.”
She credited her success to David Geffen, acknowledging his efforts in helping her achieve the honor. “He wrote a letter to the directors, and now, here I am!”
