No one but the police will have to uncover the true reason some persons chose to burn down a Motor Spare Parts Market.

Shop owners at Akere Motor Spare Parts Market came in in the morning as usual to with hopes of making some sales in the day. Unfortunately, all of that hope is now hip of ashes.

Many stood with hands in their head, not able to wrap their minds around how they have lost millions in one night.

Police say it is opening investigation into what happened overnight at the Market.

Many say it is connected to the presidential election in the state. Peter Obi, an Igbo man and presidential candidate of the Labour Party won in the state and that angered unscrupulous supporters of the All Progressive Congress that is in power in the State.

Political Thugs

Are we now the target of political thugs?, many of the affected shop owners asked, as smoke from the burnt market rose to the sky like there was never any investments in the location.

The Akere Motor Spare Parts Market is in the Lagos State neighbourhood of Apapa Ajegunle.

Eye witnesses allege that the perpetrators are political thugs.

The thugs reportedly invaded the market at around 2:00AM on March 8, 2023, shot a security guard and two other people, before setting the market ablaze.

An investigation into a possible arson at the Akere Motor Spare Parts Market in the state’s Apapa district has been launched by the Lagos State Police Command.

A 65-year-old security guard died in the incident, according to a statement from Benjamin Hundeyin, the state police spokesman, even though the fire was put out at 3 am.

Before inferno went out, many motor parts have already been destroyed.

The market’s traders have lamented the loss of several million of Naira, according to reports.

However, Hundeyin stated that Idowu Owohunwa, the state’s commissioner of police, asked Lagos residents to maintain their composure because the State Criminal Investigation Department had been given the go-ahead to take over the investigation into the attack’s real circumstances.

He also urged caution when adding any unnecessary context to the incident and reaffirmed his commitment to making the findings of the probe public.
