Actress Bukunmi Oluwasina has taken a stand against the toxic culture of envy, rivalry, and competition that she believes are prevalent among female colleagues in the film industry.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, she contrasted the camaraderie and mutual support she observes among male actors with the often divisive behaviours she feels are common among women in the same field.
Expressing her desire for change, Bukunmi emphasised her commitment to fostering love and positivity rather than engaging in negativity.
Also, she recounted how some individuals attempt to stir unnecessary competition.
She questioned her choices about whom to support or celebrate publicly.
However, she described the divisive attitudes as exhausting and unnecessary.
According to her, such behaviour only perpetuates bitterness.
In her post, she wrote: “I envy these men. Just take a look at them – the way they support and grow with each other… I pray to witness this someday among women in this field. Why does loving genuinely seem so difficult? It costs nothing”.
Bukunmi also criticised fans who fuel rivalries by pressuring celebrities to pick sides or create conflicts.
She questioned the purpose of such animosity, pointing out that none of the perceived gains, be it fame, money, or accolades, can be taken beyond this life.
Furthermore, she attributed some of the toxicity to “bitter followers” whose actions reflect the negative energy they perceive.
