Can you believe that the Presidential Villa popularly called Aso Rock is in debt over electricity bill?
So, while many other companies may be afraid to speak up about Aso Rock’s indebtedness, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), has successfully done so and has gotten a good result to show for it.
This year’s mantra, “no gree for anybody”, you may say, has worked for AEDC.
The AEDC had threatened to cut power supply to Aso Rock if its debts were not cleared.
Now, the presidency has given a swift reaction to this threat.
President Bola Tinubu has ordered that the debt be resolved as soon as possible.
Tinubu, directed the immediate payment of electricity bills owed by Aso Rock to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC).

Aso Rock To Offset Electricity Bill Debt
Furthermore, Onanuga explained that the total electricity debt owed by the State House was ₦342,352,217.46 and Tinubu had given the go ahead to clear it.
He said the debt would be cleared after the reconciliation of accounts between the State House Management and AEDC.
“President Bola Tinubu has directed immediate settlement of outstanding electricity bill due to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company.
“The President’s directive follows the reconciliation of accounts between the State House Management and AEDC.
“Contrary to the AEDC’s initial claim of ₦923 million debt in paid advertorial in newspapers.
“According to a letter by the management of AEDC to the State House Permanent Secretary dated February 14, 2024, the State House outstanding bill is ₦342,352,217.46.
“Having reconciled the position to the satisfaction of both parties.

“The Chief of Staff to the President, Rt Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila has given assurance that the debt will be paid to AEDC before the end of this week.
“Following the example of the Presidency, Chief of Staff also urged other MDAs to reconcile their accounts with AEDC and pay their electricity bills,” the statement read.
