Brazil football legend Edson Arantes do Nascimento known as Pele has died at the age of 82.
The legend died after receiving treatment in the hospital for colon cancer for a while.
His agent Joe Fraga confirmed the death to the Associated Press. Additional details were not immediately available, but Pele had been hospitalized in São Paulo, Brazil, for the past month.
Pele’s ruled the world of football for about three decades during which he helped Brazil win World Cup titles in 1958, 1962 and 1970.
During his 22-year professional career, Pele appeared in over 1,300 matches and scored almost as many goals, yet he was hardly a one-man show.
He was barely 20 when the president of Brazil proclaimed him an official national treasure.
When he was hospitalized a few weeks back, his daughter had claimed it was not an emergency and that she was going to visit him in the new year.
