Veteran rapper Michael Ugochukwu Stephens, popularly known as Ruggedman, has defended Afrobeats superstar Davido against widespread backlash over his remarks about Nigeria’s economy.
Davido recently faced criticism after cautioning Americans against relocating to Africa, particularly Nigeria, during a podcast interview.
He described the country’s economy as being in a “shamble,”.
This sparked outrage from many people.
Addressing the controversy, Ruggedman took to his X account to support Davido.
He argued that his comments reflected the harsh realities faced by millions of Nigerians.
Also, he urged critics to focus their energy on advocating for solutions rather than attacking the singer.
“Davido has said what he said. Moving forward, the government should fix Nigeria so nobody will have reason to make such comments again. Barking all over the place doesn’t fix the nation. The hardship is too much,” Ruggedman wrote.
The rapper further emphasised that Nigeria’s economic challenges are undeniable, and dismissing or criticising public figures for voicing their concerns will not resolve the issues.
Instead, he called on the government to take immediate action to address the country’s persistent economic woes, which he described as “unbearable.”
