A tense situation is unfolded at an Estate in Minna, Niger State, as residents receive threats from suspected bandits.
Suspected bandits have ordered the residents of M.I. Wushishi Estate in Minna, the capital of Niger State, to vacate their homes or face death.
Bandits Attack To Estate Residents
The bandits, believed to be miners, invaded the estate while many male residents were at work. They broke car windows and damaged houses.
A resident, who wished to remain anonymous, gave insight on the situation on Monday, September 2.
“Hoodlums we suspect are miners in the neighborhood have demanded that all residents of M.I. Wushishi Housing Estate vacate their homes or be killed,” the resident said.
The resident continued: “These individuals invaded the community in broad daylight, breaking windows and damaging several cars”.
The resident noted that the attack occurred after residents had reported the illegal miners’ activities to a neighborhood police station.
“These guys had warned us they were coming, and they did.
“They arrived after most men had gone to work. Many top civil servants, including directors and permanent secretaries, live in the estate.

“Many people have already moved out of the estate this evening for fear of further attacks.
“Nowhere is safe in the state. If bandits and terrorists are not driving people from their homes, it’s hoodlums and miners.
“Where is the government in all this?” the resident questioned,” he asked.
Niger State Police Response
On Tuesday, the Niger State Police Command spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the attack but reported that peace had been restored.
“On 02/09/2024 at about 1400hrs, we received a distress call about suspected illegal miners and miscreants fighting and attacking houses at M.I. Wushishi Estate.
“Police patrol teams led by the DPO Maitumbi responded and dispersed the miscreants.
“However, one person among the gangs, whose identity is yet to be confirmed, was killed by the hoodlums and was taken to the general hospital morgue,” Abiodun stated.
Abiodun assured residents that normalcy had been restored, investigations were ongoing to apprehend the assailants, and patrol teams had been positioned in the area to prevent future incidents.
