Ayra Starr continues her meteoric rise in the global music scene, achieving another landmark with her sophomore album, ‘The Year I Turned 21,’ surpassing 500 million streams on Spotify.
Released on May 30, 2024, the 15-track album has garnered critical acclaim for its robust exploration of Nigerian pop while showcasing Ayra Starr’s global ambitions.
The album’s success is bolstered by lead singles ‘Commas,’ ‘Rhythm & Blues,’ and ‘Bad Vibes’ featuring Seyi Vibez, with guest appearances from Nigerian hitmaker Asake, American stars Giveon and Coco Jones, and Brazilian singer Anitta.
‘The Year I Turned 21’ set records for the biggest opening day and week for an album by a Nigerian female artist on Spotify.
The album’s 500 million streams are significantly driven by the success of ‘Santa,’ her collaboration with Jamaican record producer and singer Rvssian, which has garnered over 339 million streams, making it the most streamed song on the album.
This milestone makes Ayra Starr’s sophomore album the most streamed by an African female artiste on Spotify and one of the most streamed Nigerian albums on the platform.
It also brings her closer to the 2 billion streaming mark on Spotify.
