Do you remember the Adamawa Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Hudu Yunusa Ari, who was suspended for declaring Aisha Dahiru Binani, winner of the gubernatorial elections during the recently concluded supplementary elections?
He has been arrested by officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
However, his arrest has stirred some questions by Nigerians.
Will he pay for his crime? Or is his arrest just a public show?
Some persons are of the opinion that the case may be swept under the carpet as usual.
The Arrest
The Force Headquarters on Tuesday confirmed Ari’s arrest.
His arrest was detailed in a statement by the spokesman for the police, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
“The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) hereby confirms the arrest of Barr. Hudu Yunusa-Ari, the Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC).
“He was alleged to have announced the candidate of the All Progressives Congress winner of the gubernatorial elections during the recently concluded supplementary elections.
“His arrest followed calls for his investigation by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the basis of alleged impropriety in the course of supplementary gubernatorial polls in the State.
“Barrister Ari was arrested by the Police Election Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Team in Abuja on Tuesday May 2 2023.
“He is currently in Police custody and is being grilled to ascertain the motives and motivations behind his alleged improper actions during the Adamawa polls.”

Other Officials Involved
In addition, the police say other officials and individuals culpable in the saga are being interrogated by the team.
According to the police spokesman, the IGP has assured Nigerians that every individual involved/indicted in the matter will be apprehended.
They will be investigated in line with the provisions of the law for possible prosecution.

Furthermore, he said the police would ensure that justice would be served in the case and that all guilty parties would be brought to justice.
