While residents of Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, and millions of Nigerians prayed for the safety of people taken in recent kidnappings in Abuja, Nnamdi Agu only saw a business opportunity.
He must have heard of the amount of money the kidnappers were demanding for and decided to also cash out.
As reports of kidnappings continued to spring from all corners of the country, Agu decided to kidnap himself.
His aim was not to scare people, far from it, he had his own target, which was the cash. But what he did not calculate was the risk involved in the business.
You see, contrary to public opinion, there is no short-cut or easy means to making money,
Even kidnappers go through a lot. Some even lose their lives in the process. That is why we hear that this illegal venture just like every other business requires experience and expertise.
Self-Kidnap
If only Agu had known, he would have begged his brother for money, rather than kidnapping himself.
Now, he has been arrested for fabricating his own abduction in order to deceive his relatives.
The police had vowed to put an end to this menace. Indeed, the daily attacks in the country’s seat of power was a big dent to the force’s image.
This decision was contained in a statement released on Saturday evening.
It was released by the spokesperson for the police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), SP Josephine Adeh.
Adeh refuted claims suggesting the occurrence of a kidnapping incident at the River Park Estate, Lugbe.
There Was No Abduction
According to her, no individual was abducted within the estate.
She asserted that Nnamdi orchestrated his own kidnap, as a means of defrauding his brother, who happens to be a resident of the aforementioned estate.
The statement read: “The FCT Police Command is aware of the news making rounds.

“The suspect is currently in police custody undergoing interrogation.
“While an investigation is still ongoing, further development would be communicated to the public”.
