Adamawa Assembly Suspends Council Chairman, Councillors

Some five members out of 10 in the Mubi South Local Government Council have declared the chairman dismissed amid charges of financial impropriety and incompetence.

The Adamawa State House of Assembly has suspended executive chairman of Mubi South Local Government Area, Hon Hamidu Adamu Jingi.

The assembly also suspended the vice chairman and ten councillors from the LGA’s various wards.

To find out the truth about allegations against them, the parliament, presided over by Speaker Aminu Iya Abbas on Friday, asked its ad hoc committee, led by Bauna Myandassa, to complete its inquiry into an issue involving the suspended officials and submit its report within one week.

On Thursday, the Adamawa State chapter of the Association of Local Governments in Nigeria, ALGON, criticised the alleged impeachment of Jingi, the Mubi South Council chairman.

ALGON, in a statement issued shortly after its emergency meeting in Yola on Thursday, described the removal of the chairman as a criminal act that could not be tolerated.

Abdulsalam Gidado, the state chairman of ALGON and the chairman of Song Local Government Council, informed reporters during the Yola encounter that all ALGON members unanimously rejected the alleged impeachment.

In announcing the departure of the chairman, the five councillors swore in the leader of the Legislative Council, Auwal Haruna, to serve as acting chairman of the LGC.

The Adamawa State House of Assembly, on the other hand, determined on Friday that all parties in the matter should resign from their seats in the council

It said, it’s committee will investigate the concerns and offer what might be considered the ultimate verdict.
