More revelations are coming from top government personnel on how much acceptance the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, had gained prior to Nigeria’s general elections.
The latest is coming from the Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi.
He recounted how his family conspired against him during the presidential election.
The APC governor says his family voted for the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Indeed, the love that Peter Obi has received is a testament that Nigerians are clamouring for a true change.
The hardship had increased and it is still rising, with inflation rate jumping without caution.
Ahead of the presidential election, young Nigerians had vowed to vote out corrupt politicians who have left the country in such a pitiable state.
The campaign was not only to go out and vote, but many people cried that those voting should vote their conscience.
The family of David Umahi may have given a thought to that cry from Nigerians, hence their choice to vote for their choice candidate.
The Surprise
Umahi spoke of the conspiracy on Monday during an interview on Channels Television.
He says it was surprising that President Muhammadu Buhari and the president-elect, Bola Tinubu, lost their states to the opposition parties at the February 25 polls.
According to him, he never expected that LP would win any election in Ebonyi State.
He was confident because of the structure that has been put in place so that no other political party can even win councillorship in the state.
The governor said he was also unaware that his family voted for Peter Obi, but voted APC in other elections in the state.
Protest-Votes
He added that votes obtained by Peter Obi during the election were the result of a-protest-votes due to Nigeria’s seeming hardship and challenges.

“In all honesty, I didn’t give any chance to the Labour Party to win any election in my State (Ebonyi State).
“This is because what we have put in place was such that no other political party should be able to win anything, not even Councillorship election in my State.
“The Labour Party vote was a protest against my Party (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
“I was very surprised. Even in my family, there was a conspiracy against me.
“I did not know that they voted for Peter Obi, but in the other election, they voted for APC because of what we’ve done in the State.

“It was not a vote for His Excellency Peter Obi. As there is seemingly hardship and challenges in Nigeria,” he added.
Although most Nigerians trooped out to vote in the election for the Labour Party’s candidate, Peter Obi lost the election to Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress.
Now, Peter Obi has gone to court, seeking further probe into the election which he believes he won.
