Compared to other states, Oyo State had a quite peaceful election, and Seyi Makinde will rule for another four years.
Governor Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been declared the winner of the Oyo State governorship election.
The collation of results from all the 33 LGAs puts him in a lead far ahead of his opposition.
Mr Makinde won in 31 local government areas with a total of 563,753 votes which is about double the votes of his closest challenger, Teslim Folarin of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to results announced by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the state collation centre in Ibadan, Mr Folarin won in only two local government areas.
The State Returning Officer of the INEC, Professor Olusola Kehinde, declared him the winner of the election on Sunday afternoon.
Support For Re-election Bid
Mr Makinde contested in the 2015 gubernatorial election on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) but lost.
He decided to contest again in 2019 on the platform of the PDP.

On March 9, 2019, Makinde polled 515,621 votes defeating Adebayo Adelabu of the All Progressive Party who polled 357,982 votes.
He was sworn in on May 29, 2019, as the 28th executive governor of Oyo State after the Late Senator Abiola Ajimobi.
On April 7, 2022, Makinde once again declared his intention to run for a second term of another four years.
The people of Oyo State supported his re-election bid due to his groundbreaking achievements since resuming office in 2019.
He made this declaration in a message posted on his social media accounts stating that “if the people of Oyo state desire it, we will serve four more years”.
The people of Oyo have spoken and have expressed their support for another four-year term for Makinde.
