LP’s Obi Shares Reason For Low Voter Turnout

Nigerians came out in large numbers to vote in the 2023 presidential election but the governorship election is the opposite. It appears quite a number of Nigerians lost interest in the process.

LP’s Obi Says Low Voter Turnout Is Caused By Lack Of Trust

Nigerians in 28 states are electing their governors and the house of assembly members three weeks after the presidential election.

However, unlike the large voter turnout that was witnessed at the presidential polls, the March 18 polls are the opposite.

Low voter turnout has been recorded in several states, including Anambra State.

The Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi cast his vote at Agulu in the Anaocha Local Government Area of the state.

After casting his vote Obi expressed concern over the low turnout.

‘Why Make The Effort?’

The LP candidate said the apathy was due to a lack of trust in the electoral process.

“The first thing you will observe is that there is a very low turnout of voters compared to the situation last time.

“The thinking of the electorate is that when people’s votes do not count, why make the effort?

“It is a depressing situation we have found ourselves in.

“That is why in a country where you have 93 million voters only about 25 million of them come out to vote because they know their votes will not count.

“I know it will be much less this time,” he said.

Mr Obi also encouraged Nigerians to endeavor to vote for the candidates of their choice.
