“Prepare For Severe Flooding” NEMA Tells Nigerians

The rainy season is here and you need to be able to avoid the troubles it is bringing with it.

Not preparing for it will mean falling into the danger of flooding which experts say will be severe in 2023.

Ahead of the anticipated flooding, the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mustapha Ahmed, has issued a warning.

He says there will be severe flooding this year, as indicated by predictions from relevant agencies.

Ahmed made this disclosure at a two-day Experts’ Technical Meeting on 2023 Climate-Related Disaster Preparedness and Mitigation Strategies in Abuja.

He said that this had earlier been revealed in the seasonal climate predictions and annual flood outlooks by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency and the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency.

The NiMet had predicted March 2 as the beginning of 2023 raining season for most part of the country. The rains have started coming.

The agency also disclosed that the month would mark the beginning of 2023 planting season in some parts of Nigeria.

Last year, many Nigerians lost their farmlands and homes to flooding that occurred in different part of Nigeria.

At some point the Nigerian government blamed Cameron for opening its dam.

Flooding has been described by Google as an overflow of water that submerges land that is usually dry. It stares a significant level of concern for those in agriculture, civil engineering and public health.

Flooding is dangerous because it can cause physical damage and disruption, and also lead to illness and injuries.
